EBook Readers and other useful software for eBook users.
EBooks come in many different formats... many you can read with just your browser, others are self-extracting (.exe) files that need no special reader software and some eBooks are Rich Text Formatted (RTF) - These run in most word processing programs. (MicrosoftWord, WordPerfect, etc.)
Then there are the ones that require some sort of dedicated reader...
Microsoft Reader. For the Microsoft reader format ~ for PC and Pocket PC platforms.
Mobipocket Reader.
Mobipocket is a cross-platform reader for Palm, Psion and Windows CE devices. Also supports XDOC format with embedded HTML to handle typography such as italics, bolding etc..
Adobe Reader for .PDF files. Odds are good that you already have some version of Adobe Reader already installed. But if not, you can get it here, in versions for both PC and mobile devices.
yBook - a freeware ebook reader yBook is a free text, html, .rtf and .pdb/prc (Palm document format) ebook reader with booklet printing.
eReader for Palm, Pocket PC and Windows Mobile Used to read eReader eBooks on your Palm or Pocket PC handheld. Palms and other PDAs allow you to carry as many eBooks with you as the memory will allow.
Some eBooks are ZIPPED: You'll need an UN-ZIP program to open them up... we use and suggest the free AL-ZIP from ALTools.net, it works on virtually every archive format out there. (And it's easier to use and faster than WinZip.)
Some ebooks are written in .chm format - which is a windows Help File format for Win95 or newer. if you need to download the Help Update go to Microsoft's Web site.
Free Download Manager. Most ebooks are fairly small, and with a broadband internet connection you can download them pretty quickly. But if you are using a dial-up connection, a download manager can save you a lot of time and frustration - FDM is a download manager that supports resumable downloads and split-file multiple simultaneous downloads.
